Full Circle Lithium has developed FCL-X – a specialized extinguishing agent – from the ground up, to tackle the growing challenge of extinguishing hazardous lithium-ion battery (LIB) fires. FCL-X has undergone rigorous internal and external testing – demonstrating exceptional cooling capabilities, reduced off-gassing, and prevention of reignition in LIB fires.
Due to its extreme heat absorption, FCL-X is currently being tested on many different applications beyond LIB fires, as well as in different fire scenarios.

What is FCL-X?
FCL-X is an aqueous solution, primarily water, enhanced with a crucial active ingredient, making it uniquely effective for LIB fires. Its high-water content allows for superior penetration of the LIB compared to non-water-based agents. Unlike foam and vermiculite, which act as temporary barriers on the surface of the ongoing chemical reaction, FCL-X penetrates and halts the reaction at the cell level.

Penetrates the
Battery During Thermal Runaway
FCL-X soaks into the battery structure, reaching deep into cells that are undergoing thermal runaway. This direct contact helps interrupt the chain reaction before it spreads to other cells in the battery pack.
Rapidly Cools the Fire and Lowers Surface Temperature
As a water-based agent, FCL-X cools the fire quickly, reducing the heat energy driving the reaction.
Lower temperatures slow down chemical reactions, contain the spread, and give responders control.
Prevents Reignition
and Flashovers
Even after the flames are out, a battery can reignite minutes – or even hours – later. FCL-X creates a protective barrier that helps stabilize the battery and prevent dangerous flare-ups.
Buffers Lithium Oxidation and Suppresses Hydrogen Generation
FCL-X interrupts the lithium oxidation process that fuels the fire and generates flammable hydrogen gas. By slowing this process, it limits the risk of gas buildup and secondary explosions.
Neutralizes Harmful Chemicals Like Hydrogen Fluoride (HF)
Lithium-ion fires release toxic gases – including hydrogen fluoride, one of the most dangerous byproducts of battery fires. FCL-X chemically reacts with these gases to form non-hazardous salts, reducing the danger to people on scene.
